Prints

To Cultivate. was an exhibition focused on Black hair. Prints showcased silhouettes of Black women with varying hairstyles. On top of their heads are small workers tilling, as if their hair was a garden.

Printed silhouettes were then scanned into the computer, animated, and projected into a room filled with the sound of whispers to mimic the pressure I felt being surrounded by people telling me to go natural.

Animated Prints

The above video was projected onto three walls of a room to give the feeling of being surrounded. Figures whisper to one another, representing how I felt being pressured to transition my hair from relaxed to natural. Human hair was placed throughout the room.

The original print was 6 feet long and placed in a handmade frame on the opposite wall of the room with the animation.
